BA 4 - project 1 the group

for the first few weeks of with term i was with a group with my friend bailey but unfortunately we disagreed about a few things and had a big difference of opinion so we decided it would be best if we joined other  groups.

So i joined Dan and Pieter’s group. Dan and Pieter had a very solid game idea when i joined their group, like me they wanted to use the game flow and they had a really good idea of how to interpret that game and re-imagine it.

Their idea was to design a game where there is no restrictions and no limits to how long it takes to complete or how quickly you can complete it. Also they liked the idea of the game having very subtle indications of where the goal was to progress further in the game. very similar to flow and journey (flow with the little things you eat to go up or down a level and journey with the lights you have to follow). So after thinking about all these factors they came up with the idea of a game which are are som kind of flying bird or creature that grows bigger and better as you go closer to the sun and weaker and smaller when in shade. Which personal i thought was a sick idea but then Pieter asked the question but how far could u go? if there where no limits? Then we discovered the infinity game engine which allows you to land of planets if you are in space so planets are not backdrops any more but the are actual things. this of course is perfect for our game this allows us to be able to leave the earths orbit and actually fly into the sun! At this point we had a game.

The game would be roughly that your are a flying creature that has to use its growth as an indication that the sun is its gal and u can fly around the worlds orbit as much as you want until you get bored and head for the sun and the game ends when you hit the sun.

BA 4 - project 1 early ideas

After having my first meet up and talk with pieter and dan i went away and too what they told me in to account and did some basic sketches and in general a bt of a brain storm because dan and pieter had left me with the job of the 2D side of the game to make it visually nice. here as some of my initial sketches.

These sketches are some of my original character designs to try and work out a similarity between each of the characters so we know what changes and what stays the same as the character gets bigger and stronger. In these original designs i had the idea that as it gets bigger the head stays the same but the body increases in size and it grows more wings and tails . Also i thought that maybe as another subtle indication of the sun is your goal you could have particles and bits that come off you and go towards the sun.this i illustrated in the last sketch.
The one area of our game which we are in general a bit confused about is the overall colouring. there are some areas which would really suit a greyscale colour scheme just because it would really help showing the differences between light and dark. But then there are times where just want to show the beauty of the game and that could really be illustrated well in colour. To be fair I don't think its an area of importance for the brief i think it is more important to get across the game idea and how it would work and ect.
